Usability tests of popular online activity trackers
This would be mainly geared towards biking, although my recent interest in running may change the focus a bit. Issues to consider:
- Integration with other activity/health sites (EveryMove, FitBit, Withings, etc)
- Integration with social media.
- Data upload ease (see below)
- Data manipulation once uploaded (cropping routes, tweaking, etc)
Data upload tests:
- Upload single new track from Garmin 500, sole device
- Upload multiple new tracks from Garmin 500, sole device
- Upload old/new track mix from Garmin 500, sole device
- Repeat #1, #2, and #3, but with iPhone also attached
- Maybe try the same with some new yet-to-be-purchased runner's GPS?
Reverse engineer Android's offline Google Maps feature
And if this is sucessful...
Create "biker's GPS" for Nexus 7 (Rando-droid?)
- Keep current location on-screen at all times
- Keep display on
- Use offline maps to avoid need for constant data connection
- Track logging to GPX file
- Integrate with Dropbox, Garmin Connect, etc?
- Allow map overlay of existing (multiple?) routes/tracks
Learn VIM really well
Because it is the one true editor.
Learn GDB really well
Even the best of us need to debug occasionally.
Build new home computer system
- Modern Intel CPU, as fast as possible
- USB 3
- At least 16G RAM (with clear path to 32G)
- SSD storage for OS
- Possible SSD storage for VMs
- HDD for bulk storage
- Current system becomes home server, possibly WiFi router
- Reasonably fast/capable video card (whatever has best Linux support)

- Write Linux "Hello World" without using any runtime (no glibc, etc)
